Yoga
We mainly practise yoga in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and his students, A.G. Mohan and B.K.S. Iyengar.
Classes begin with easy movements and stretches to activate and loosen the muscles and to create space in the joints. Synchronizing and deepening the breath with the movements and stretches leads to a state of mindfulness.
In our practice of yoga poses (asanas) and their variations, we aim to harmoniously develop strength and extension on the one hand and flexibility and release on the other.
Regular practice is a form of self-care. The range of movement is increased through performing twists, inversions and bends (forward, back and side). This improves outer and inner balance.
Savasana (relaxation) and pranayamas (special breathing exercises, i.e. prolonging and holding the breath) promote deeper concentration and serenity.

A short history of the VIC Yoga Club
The VIC Yoga Club is one of the oldest, continuously active clubs at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna, Austria.
It was founded in 1976 as the IAEA Yoga Club when the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) was located in the Grand Hotel Wien on the Ring Strasse for over 20 years. In November 2004, the club’s name was changed to the VIC Yoga Club.
Our teacher, Helmuth Hausberger, has been guiding us for decades. Helmuth was trained and certified both by Dr. Susanne Schmida and in the method of B.K.S. Iyengar.
